In an instant did we  open our eyes to this world one  day long ago. . .  You do not remember that moment do you? But somewhere in your memory, deep inside. . . in some secret place the images of that moment are retained.

Generally, early events,  preceding a  certain age, are  not remembered, although  their memories   are recorded somewhere in our brain. . .

For instance you! What is the first thing you remember since you were born?

Your motherís voice? Or is it the loving expression of your father?

The first memory you recall. . . is about what age?  Just think about this. . .

It is He Who  brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers when ye knew nothing; and He gave you hearing and sight and intelligence and affections: that ye may give thanks (to God) VERSE 78, THE BEE (NAHL) SURA 16

Most people do not remember the events prior to their third birthday.

Because, although memory records start to develop from that year on, we cannot access those records which are hidden somewhere in our brain.

He created you (all) from a single Person: then created, of like nature his mate and he sent down for you eight head of cattle in pairs,  in the wombs of your mothers, in stages one after another, in three veils of darkness. Such is God, your Lord and Cherisher: to Him belongs (all) dominion.  There is no god but He: then how are ye tuned away (from your true Center)? VERSE 6, THE CROWDS (ZUMAR), SURA 39

All right, do you recall prior to your birth?

Of course you are going to laugh. . . if you canít remember prior to your third birthday how can you remember prior to your birth?

But prior to birth we were some place in spirit. . . Is that not so?

But where? And what were we doing? Have you ever asked yourselves these questions?

How can you reject the faith in God?-  Seeing you were without life; and He gave you life; then will he cause you to die and will again bring you to life; and again to Him will ye return. VERSE 28, THE HEIFER (BAQARA) SURA 2

This is the question we do not ask ourselves during the hustle and bustle of our daily lives.

Where are we from?

Man whose ambition is to earn money never thinks of this question?

The only purpose of our life is not to be born, develop, reproduce and die. . . This assumption is only valid for animals. . . For man is a thinking animal. . . And, for whatever reason, that thinking creature never asks itself this question. . .

Man who is making a living and  struggling to ensure a comfortable life neglects to ask himself another question:

Where are we going?

Is not that so? Man is born, grows up, reproduces and dies. . all right where do we go when we die? Whatís going to happen to us? What awaits us? These questions never cross our mind.

Every soul  will have a taste of death: and on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object of (Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.

Man who commemorates his birthday for whatever reason does not think that he will also have a death day. He does not see death fit for himself. He sees death distant to himself. . or in his struggle to earn his living  he is so preoccupied that he does not have time to even think of death. . .

Whereas, death is just a breath away from us. . . It is close as a systole or diastole. .  we do not want to think of death because it demoralizes us. . it ruins our future plans. . and ends  our dreams for a summer vacation. Is it not frightful to think of having a grave before owning a home?

This is why we do not think of death. . because it is these nice projections that bind us to life. . we live and age with these projections. .

What meaning would life have if we knew were going to die tomorrow?

But honestly speaking. . . think for a moment and ask yourself the following question:

Where are we from? Where are we going?

Itís then that our existence in this world will have a much different meaning for us. . maybe we will be able to find the answer to why we were created in this unmerciful  rat race for life. . . and free ourselves  from competing to acquire something in this world. . .

I have only created djinns and men, that they may serve Me. VERSE 56,THE WINDS THAT SCATTER (ZARIYAT), SURA 51

Who knows, maybe what we have not been able to acquire for this world, in this world,  we might be able to acquire for the next world. . .

Ye who believe! Fear God And let every soul look what (provision) He has sent forth for the morrow. Yea, fear God. For God is well acquainted with (all) that ye do. Verse18, THE GATHERING,( HASHR) Sura 59
