HOW TO UNDERSTAND THAT WE HAVE AGED ?
Have you ever given this a thought?
How do we understand that we are old?
We never are aware in life that we have become old. During the hustle and bustle of earning a living, trying to earn money. . .
Then one day as we are going up the stairs we feel that we are out of breath. We notice one day that we tire quickly. . . We see with consternation that things we used to take great pleasure in, no longer give us pleasure and that we are in quest of happiness of a much different nature.
We start to see, with disappointment and fear, where we used to read people the age of our grandparents or aunts,. . . the names of contemporaries in the obituaries. . .
Then forgetfulness begins. . .
First we start to forget names and then faces. . then to pull up our zipper after we leave the rest room and then to pull it down when reenter it.
And one day. . somehow we get hold of a blanching picture. . .one of our youth. . and our eyes water. .
Wow, “I sure was something in those days” we say to ourselves. . .
It is then that we feel that we have aged. . .
And , it is then the fear of death starts to fill our soul. And it is then that we remember a friend we haven’t called on for years, whose words and advice we disregarded and did not follow. . .
My recommendation to you:
Remember that friend before old age reminds itself to you. . .
Then how shall ye, if ye deny (God), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed? VERSE 17, FOLDED IN GARMENTS (MUZAMMIL) SURA 73
